Kippford: " Kippford, above Urr Water, is one of the most charming nooks in the whole of the British Coast"  (London Times 1927). And it is still the case. You can stroll along the main street with its breathtaking views of the Solway Firth estuary and over to Screel and Bengairn Hills in the middle distance, or watch the yachts as they arrive and depart from the marina. Rockcliffe: Set round a lovely rocky bay with sandy beach, Rockcliffe has always been a favourite stopping place for visitors to the area. Children can spend happy hours in the rock pools when the tide is out, and there is a little tearoom if the weather is wet. From Rockcliffe there are some interesting coastal walks. More>>

Colvend: From Colvend you are within easy reach of many interests and activities. On your doorstep are the pleasures of the coast at Rockcliffe and Kippford. Or if you prefer there is golf at Colvend Golf Course. Or take the family to Mabie Farm Park for the day. Or visit Cream o'Galloway. Or do a spot of birdwatching at Mersehead. Sandyhills & Southwick: As well as being an area of outstanding natural beauty,with its wonderful peaceful beach, Sandyhills and Southwick is ideally placed for visiting further afield, either to the county town of Dumfries with its many attractions, or deeper into the countryside around the Colvend Coast to Dalbeattie and the surrounding area. Further Afield: This quiet corner of South West Scotland is full of surprises. Discover enchanting landscapes and a coastline which is one of the most varied in Scotland, with dramatic craggy outcrops and long sandy beaches, and a whole range and variety of walks.  Nearby is Galloway Forest Park, Britain's largest forest park at three hundred square miles, which includes moorland and lochs, and stretches from seashore to mountain tops, and is the habitat for a variety of plants and wildlife.

If you prefer a cityscape, you can reach historic Carlisle, Glasgow or Edinburgh or Ayr, all within a couple of hours,  or visit the home of Scotland's National poet, Robbie Burns,in nearby Dumfries.
