Dalbeattie:

Wild Wood at Tinker's Loaning is a great place to listen for the nightjar at dusk. Take the B793 off the A711. After about 2 miles Tinkers Loaning is on the right, just a few hundred metres from where the forest meets the road. Park your car at the gates to the forest. Between May and July, if you go a couple of hundred metres into the forest you should be able to hear the nightjar 'churring'.
